Civil War Nurses Online

Join historian, Starr Tour Director, and costumed interpreter Jane Peters Estes to learn about many of the women (both little-known and famous) who served as nurses between 1861 and 1865. Ms. Estes will cover the different paths by which women entered the occupation and stories of women who never intended to be nurses, but were caught up by the circumstances of war.

Jane Peters Estes is the recipient of many awards, including the Samuel Town Memorial Award for "outstanding contributions" to Civil War history. She enjoys bringing historical women and their stories to life.
