Bound for Amerikay: a virtual concert Online
The husband-and-wife duo, McDermott’s Handy, has been collecting the music, stories and songs about “going to America” for more than 45 years and integrating this music into their concerts. They’ll present this broad repertoire in a distinctive musical program in order to tell the emigrants’ story in their virtual concert for Moorestown Library. This is the Irish viewpoint, to be sure, but in essence it is the story of every ethnic group who struggled in their homeland against political upheaval and repression, endured grinding poverty and racial or religious persecution to build a new life in America and something better for their children. Kathy DeAngelo will play harp, fiddle, banjo and bodhran while husband Dennis Gormley plays the flute and tinwhistle, guitar and bouzouki.
This virtual performance, filled with lots of traditional Irish music, will be a great way to get into the spirit of St. Patrick's Day!
Sponsored by the Friends of Moorestown Library.
